श्री श्याम मंदिर आलमबाजार, कोलकाता को – कोलकाता का खाटूधाम (Kolkata Ka Khatudham) और पूर्वी भारत का सबसे बड़ा श्याम मंदिर (Biggest Shyam Mandir Of Eastern India) के रूप में भी जाना जाता है। पूर्वी भारत के सांस्कृतिक एवं आध्यात्मिक केंद्र कोलकाता नगर में, पतित पावनी माँ गंगा के पवित्र तट के समीप और आदिशक्ति माँ भद्रकाली के सिद्ध पीठ दक्षिणेश्वर के निकट, श्री श्याम मंदिर आलमबाजार भक्ति और अटूट श्रद्धा का एक अलौकिक धाम बनकर उभर चुका है। उत्तर कोलकाता की पावन धरा पर स्थित यह दिव्य मंदिर लाखों श्याम भक्तों के लिए आस्था का सबसे बड़ा केंद्र माना जाता है। प्रतिदिन यहाँ हज़ारों की संख्या में श्रद्धालु खाटू श्याम बाबा के दिव्य दर्शन करने और उनकी अनुकंपा प्राप्त करने के लिए पधारते हैं। अपनी विहंगम भव्यता, राजस्थानी नक्काशी की बारीकियों और शांत आध्यात्मिक वातावरण के कारण इसे श्रद्धालु प्यार से कोलकाता का खाटू धाम भी कहते हैं।

श्री श्याम मंदिर आलमबाजार की सुंदरता केवल इसके भौतिक स्वरूप में ही नहीं, बल्कि इसके कण-कण में समाए हुए भक्तिभाव और सकारात्मक ऊर्जा में भी महसूस होती है। जब कोई भक्त मंदिर परिसर में प्रवेश करता है, तो उसे एक अद्भुत शांति का अहसास होता है। मंदिर की स्थापत्य कला और इसकी नक्काशी देखने योग्य है। यह संपूर्ण भव्य मंदिर विशुद्ध श्वेत मकराना संगमरमर (Makrana Marble) से निर्मित किया गया है, जो राजस्थान के कुशल कारीगरों की कड़ी मेहनत और अगाध भक्ति का एक सजीव उदाहरण है। मंदिर का मुख्य गर्भगृह चांदी की बारीक एवं आकर्षक नक्काशी से सजाया गया है, जहाँ बाबा श्याम का मनमोहक और अलौकिक स्वरूप विराजमान है। बाबा के भक्तो का मानना है कि बाबा अपने दरबार में आने वाले सभी भक्तो के मन की अरदास सुनते है और उन्हे पूर्ण करते हैं तथा इस पावन दरबार में नित नये चमत्कार देखने को मिलते हैं।

मंदिर निर्माण का संकल्प और पावन इतिहास

श्री श्याम मंदिर आलमबाजार के निर्माण की कहानी अपने आप में ईश्वर की अद्भुत लीला और परम कृपा का प्रत्यक्ष प्रमाण है। इस भव्य धाम के निर्माण का पावन संकल्प सर्वप्रथम श्री गोविंद मुरारी अग्रवाल जी के हृदय में प्रस्फुटित हुआ। मूल रूप से राजस्थान के सीकर जिले के गाड़ोदा गाँव के निवासी और बाद में उत्तर कोलकाता के आलमबाजार में बसे श्री गोविंद मुरारी अग्रवाल जी बचपन से ही बाबा श्याम के अनन्य भक्त रहे हैं। उनके मन में हमेशा से यह अभिलाषा थी कि कोलकाता की पावन भूमि पर एक ऐसा श्याम धाम स्थापित हो, जहाँ भक्त निर्विघ्न रूप से बाबा की भक्ति में लीन हो सकें।

जिस पवित्र भूमि पर आज यह गगनचुंबी और अलौकिक मंदिर मुस्कुरा रहा है, वह भूमि कभी पूरी तरह से अनुपयोगी और विवादित मानी जाती थी। पूर्व में कई लोगों ने इस भूमि को प्राप्त करने का प्रयास किया था, लेकिन कोई भी सफल नहीं हो सका। ऐसा प्रतीत होता है मानो यह पावन भूमि स्वयं बाबा श्याम ने अपने भव्य धाम के निर्माण के लिए सुरक्षित रखी थी। मंदिर निर्माण का यह मार्ग अत्यंत कठिन परीक्षाओं और संघर्षों से भरा था। संस्था के सामने भारी वित्तीय बाधाएं, जटिल कानूनी अड़चनें और भूमि को अवैध कब्जों से मुक्त कराने जैसी विकट चुनौतियाँ खड़ी थीं। एक समय ऐसा भी आया जब मानवीय दृष्टिकोण से यह कार्य सर्वथा असंभव लग रहा था।

परंतु, ‘जहाँ सच्चा भाव और निष्काम भक्ति होती है, वहाँ प्रभु स्वयं राह बनाते हैं।’ संस्था के तत्कालीन अध्यक्ष स्वर्गीय श्री भैरव दत्त खेतान जी और उनके परम समर्पित सहयोगियों के अथक प्रयासों से वर्ष 2008 में यह भूमि आखिरकार संस्था की देखरेख में आई। इसके बाद भी लगभग 18 महीनों तक भूमि संबंधी जटिल विवाद चलते रहे। इसी कठिन समय में बाबा श्याम ने श्री गोविंद मुरारी अग्रवाल जी को स्वप्न में दर्शन देकर पावन धाम खाटू आने का निर्देश दिया। खाटू धाम की पावन यात्रा से लौटने के उपरांत, प्रभु की असीम अनुकंपा से 75 प्रतिशत भूमि का स्वामित्व सफलतापूर्वक संस्था को प्राप्त हो गया।

भूमि पूजन, निर्माण कार्य और महान संतों का मार्गदर्शन

भूमि अधिग्रहण की ऐतिहासिक सफलता के बाद, 16 मई 2010 के शुभ दिन पर अत्यंत भव्य और भक्तिमय वातावरण में ‘भूमि पूजन’ का कार्यक्रम संपन्न हुआ। इस ऐतिहासिक अवसर पर अनेक पूज्य संतों, आध्यात्मिक विभूतियों और विशाल भक्त समूह की उपस्थिति ने संपूर्ण वातावरण को दिव्यता से भर दिया। भूमि पूजन के पावन अवसर पर श्री गोविंद मुरारी अग्रवाल जी ने अपने अटूट विश्वास को व्यक्त करते हुए कहा था: ‘भले ही आज यह भूमि वीरान नजर आ रही है, लेकिन बाबा श्याम ने अपने इस पावन धाम के लिए इसे पहले ही चुन लिया है। जब सही समय आएगा, तो प्रभु स्वयं इस कार्य को सुंदरता से पूर्ण करेंगे।’

इसके उपरांत वर्ष 2013 में अक्षय तृतीया के अबूझ मुहूर्त पर मंदिर के वास्तविक निर्माण कार्य का श्रीगणेश हुआ। राजस्थान से आए सिद्धहस्त कारीगरों ने मकराना के पत्थरों को तराशकर, उनमें कलात्मक नक्काशी उकेरकर और पारंपरिक राजस्थानी स्थापत्य कला का समावेश करके मंदिर को एक भव्य और अविश्वसनीय रूप दिया। इस संपूर्ण निर्माण यात्रा में अनेक पूज्य गुरुओं का आशीर्वाद और मार्गदर्शन निरंतर प्राप्त होता रहा। मंदिर के निर्माण और निरंतर विकास में श्री गणेश अग्रवाल जी ने अत्यंत महत्वपूर्ण और सराहनीय भूमिका निभाई। उनकी अनवरत लगन और निस्वार्थ सेवा भाव ने इस पावन स्वप्न को धरातल पर उतारने में महान योगदान दिया।

इस पवित्र कार्य को श्री श्याम अखंड ज्योति पाठ के रचयिता पूज्य स्वर्गीय श्री चंद्र जी शर्मा , स्वर्गीय श्री सोहनलाल जी लोहाकार, रींगस श्याम मंदिर के महंत, पूज्य स्वर्गीय श्री बुद्रसिंह जी महाराज और पूज्य स्वर्गीय श्री कुलभूषण जी शर्मा का स्नेह और संबल प्राप्त हुआ। निर्माण के शुरुआती दिनों में पूज्य श्री चंद्र जी शर्मा ने यह भविष्यवाणी करते हुए आशीर्वाद दिया था कि ‘यहाँ एक अत्यंत भव्य और सुंदर मंदिर का निर्माण होगा, जो पूर्वी भारत में भक्ति का प्रमुख केंद्र बनेगा।’ आज जब हम आलमबाजार श्याम मंदिर की अलौकिक छटा को देखते हैं, तो संतों के वे पवित्र वचन पूरी तरह चरितार्थ होते दिखाई देते हैं।

प्रथम तल के भव्य गर्भगृह में बाबा श्याम की प्रतिष्ठा

मंदिर का निर्माण पूर्ण होने के उपरांत, 30 जनवरी 2020 से 2 फरवरी 2020 तक वैदिक मंत्रोच्चार, भव्य धार्मिक अनुष्ठानों और भक्तिमय उत्सवों के बीच प्रथम तल पर स्थित विशाल और नक्काशीदार गर्भगृह में बाबा श्याम के दिव्य विग्रह की पावन प्रतिष्ठा संपन्न हुई। यह अवसर कोलकाता के श्याम भक्तों के इतिहास में एक स्वर्णिम अध्याय बनकर दर्ज हो गया। गर्भगृह में स्थापित बाबा श्याम की मनमोहक मूर्ति इतनी जीवंत और करुणामयी प्रतीत होती है कि दर्शन मात्र से भक्तों की सारी थकान और पीड़ा समाप्त हो जाती है।

मुख्य गर्भगृह में विराजमान खाटू श्याम बाबा के अलावा, यहाँ श्री राधा-कृष्ण की अति सुंदर और आनंददायी प्रतिमाएँ स्थापित हैं। इसके साथ ही मंदिर परिसर में श्री हनुमान जी और शिव परिवार के पावन देवालय भी बने हुए हैं, जो श्रद्धालुओं को एक ही स्थान पर संपूर्ण सनातन देव-परंपरा के दर्शन का सौभाग्य प्रदान करते हैं। प्रथम तल पर स्थित यह विशाल मंदिर परिसर न केवल धार्मिक दृष्टि से महत्त्वपूर्ण है, बल्कि यहाँ आने वाले प्रत्येक आगंतुक को एक अद्वितीय शांति और आध्यात्मिक तृप्ति का अहसास कराता है।

आरती और दर्शन का दैनिक समय

आलमबाजार श्याम मंदिर में प्रतिदिन हज़ारों भक्त दर्शन हेतु पधारते हैं। श्रद्धालुओं की सुविधा और सुगम दर्शन के लिए मंदिर प्रबंधन द्वारा आरती और दर्शन का एक निश्चित समय निर्धारित किया गया है। मंदिर में प्रतिदिन नियमित रूप से 5 मुख्य आरतियाँ आयोजित की जाती हैं। इन आरतियों में भाग लेना अपने आप में एक अलौकिक अनुभव प्रदान करता है, जहाँ शंख ध्वनि, घड़ियाल और ढोल-नगाड़ों की गूँज के बीच बाबा श्याम की भव्य आरती उतारी जाती है।

मंदिर में आयोजित होने वाली 5 मुख्य आरतियों का विवरण इस प्रकार है: प्रथम आरती प्रभात काल में ‘मंगला आरती’ के रूप में होती है, जो नए दिन की शुरुआत में बाबा को जगाने हेतु की जाती है। तत्पश्चात ‘शृंगार आरती’ संपन्न होती है, जिसमें बाबा श्याम के भव्य शृंगार के दर्शन होते हैं। दोपहर के समय बाबा को भोग लगाने के पश्चात ‘भोग आरती’ की जाती है। संध्या काल में भव्य ‘संध्या आरती’ होती है, जिसमें सबसे अधिक भक्त भाग लेते हैं। अंत में रात्रि के समय ‘शयन आरती’ के साथ दिन के दर्शन पूर्ण होते हैं। इन पाँचों आरतियों के समय भक्त भारी संख्या में उपस्थित होकर बाबा की कृपा प्राप्त करते हैं।

इसके अतिरिक्त, प्रत्येक शुक्ल और कृष्ण पक्ष की ‘एकादशी’ तिथि का मंदिर में विशेष धार्मिक महत्त्व है। हर एकादशी को शाम 05:30 बजे से मंदिर परिसर में एक भव्य और भावपूर्ण ‘श्याम कीर्तन एवं भजन संध्या’ का आयोजन किया जाता है। दूर-दराज से आने वाले प्रसिद्ध भजन गायकों द्वारा प्रस्तुत मधुर भजनों पर भक्त झूम उठते हैं। एकादशी के दिन मंदिर की रौनक और बढ़ा दी जाती है तथा बाबा का अलौकिक शृंगार विशेष ताजे पुष्पों से किया जाता है।

 

परिसर का वातावरण, भंडारा और सामाजिक सेवा कार्य

श्री श्याम मंदिर आलमबाजार केवल पूजा-अर्चना तक सीमित स्थान नहीं है, बल्कि यह मानव सेवा और निस्वार्थ कर्म का एक महान केंद्र है। मंदिर परिसर में श्रद्धालुओं के लिए स्वच्छ पेयजल, बैठने की उत्तम व्यवस्था और अनुशासित दर्शन पंक्तियों का ध्यान रखा जाता है।, मंदिर द्वारा कोरोना काल से लेकर वर्तमान समय तक जरूरतमंद एवं असहाय लोगों के लिए प्रतिदिन दो बार भोजन की व्यवस्था की जाती है। दोपहर 12 बजे तथा शाम 7 बजे जरूरतमंदों को भोजन कराया जाता है। यह सेवा निरंतर मानव सेवा और परोपकार की भावना के साथ संचालित की जा रही है। जिसमें जाति, धर्म या वर्ग के भेदभाव के बिना सभी श्रद्धालुओं को प्रेमपूर्वक भोजन कराया जाता है। यह धाम सामाजिक और परोपकारी कार्यों में भी निरंतर अग्रसर रहता है। मंदिर द्वारा नियमित रूप से रक्तदान शिविर ,कंबल वितरण, नि:शुल्क स्वास्थ्य जाँच शिविर और निर्धनों की सहायता के कार्यक्रम चलाए जाते हैं। इसके साथ ही मंदिर परिसर में श्रीमद्भागवत कथा, जन्माष्टमी महोत्सव और एकादशी महोत्सव जैसे भव्य सांस्कृतिक व धार्मिक आयोजन वर्ष भर आयोजित होते रहते हैं। सबसे विशेष सेवा दुर्गा पूजा के पावन अवसर पर देखने को मिलती है, जब कोलकाता में आने वाले हजारों दर्शनार्थियों के लिए मंदिर समिति द्वारा स्वच्छ पेयजल और विशाल भंडारे की निरंतर व्यवस्था की जाती है।
मंदिर की इस सेवा परंपरा और प्रसिद्धि को जन-जन तक पहुँचाने में महान समाजसेवी और समर्पित भक्त स्वर्गीय राजा अग्रवाल जी का अमूल्य योगदान रहा है। उन्होंने धार्मिक कार्यक्रमों के सफल आयोजन और भक्तों में विश्वास जगाने में अपना जीवन समर्पित कर दिया। 31 दिसंबर 2022 को बाबा श्याम ने उन्हें अपने श्रीचरणों में स्थान दिया, लेकिन उनके द्वारा स्थापित सेवा की यह परंपरा आज भी मंदिर में पूरी निष्ठा के साथ जारी है।

The Vision Behind the Temple and Its Sacred History

The story behind the construction of Shree Shyam Mandir Alambazar is itself a remarkable testimony to divine grace and the extraordinary play of the Almighty. The sacred vision of building this magnificent dham first arose in the heart of Shri Govind Murari Agarwal Ji. Originally from the village of Gadoda in Sikar district, Rajasthan, and later settled in Alambazar, North Kolkata, Shri Govind Murari Agarwal Ji had been a devoted follower of Baba Shyam since childhood. He had always cherished the desire to establish a Shyam Dham on the sacred land of Kolkata—a place where devotees could immerse themselves in the devotion of Baba Shyam without obstacles.

The land where this magnificent and divine temple now stands was once considered completely unusable and disputed. Several people had previously attempted to acquire this land, but none had succeeded. It seemed as though this sacred land had itself been reserved by Baba Shyam for the construction of His magnificent dham. The journey toward constructing the temple was filled with numerous challenges and struggles. The organization faced severe financial difficulties, complicated legal obstacles, and the enormous challenge of freeing the land from illegal encroachments. At one point, from a purely human perspective, the completion of this project seemed almost impossible.

However, Where there is true devotion and selfless faith, the Lord Himself creates the path. Through the tireless efforts of the organization’s then President, Late Shri Bhairav Dutt Khetan Ji, along with his deeply devoted associates, the land finally came under the organization’s supervision in 2008. Even after this, complicated land-related disputes continued for nearly 18 months. During this difficult period, Baba Shyam appeared to Shri Govind Murari Agarwal Ji in a dream and instructed him to visit the sacred Khatu Dham. After returning from his sacred journey to Khatu Dham, through the infinite grace of the Lord, the organization successfully obtained ownership of 75% of the land.

Bhoomi Pujan, Construction and the Guidance of Great Saints

Following the historic success in acquiring the land, the Bhoomi Pujan ceremony was performed on the auspicious day of 16 May 2010, amidst a grand and deeply devotional atmosphere. The presence of numerous revered saints, spiritual personalities, and a large gathering of devotees filled the entire environment with divine energy. On the sacred occasion of Bhoomi Pujan, Shri Govind Murari Agarwal Ji, expressing his unwavering faith, said:

Although this land may appear deserted today, Baba Shyam has already chosen it for His sacred dham. When the right time comes, the Lord Himself will beautifully complete this work.

Thereafter, in 2013, the actual construction of the temple commenced on the auspicious occasion of Akshaya Tritiya, considered an especially sacred and auspicious time for beginning important endeavors. Highly skilled craftsmen from Rajasthan carefully carved Makrana stone, created intricate artistic designs, and incorporated traditional Rajasthani architectural elements to give the temple its magnificent and extraordinary form. Throughout this entire journey of construction, the temple continuously received the blessings and guidance of numerous revered spiritual gurus.

Shri Ganesh Agarwal Ji played an extremely important and commendable role in the construction and continued development of the temple. His unwavering dedication and selfless spirit of service made a significant contribution toward transforming this sacred dream into reality.

This sacred endeavor received the love, blessings, and support of the revered Late Shri Chandra Ji Sharma, the creator of Shree Shyam Akhand Jyoti Path, Late Shri Sohanlal Ji Lohakar, the Mahant of Reengus Shyam Mandir, revered Late Shri Budra Singh Ji Maharaj, and revered Late Shri Kulbhushan Ji Sharma. During the early stages of construction, Pujya Shri Chandra Ji Sharma blessed the project and predicted: A magnificent and beautiful temple will be built here, which will become a major center of devotion in Eastern India. Today, when we witness the divine magnificence of Alambazar Shyam Mandir, the sacred words of these revered saints appear to have come true in every sense.

Baba Shyam in the Grand Sanctum on the First Floor

After the completion of the temple, the sacred consecration ceremony of the divine idol of Baba Shyam was performed in the magnificent and intricately carved sanctum located on the first floor. The ceremony took place from 30 January 2020 to 2 February 2020, amidst Vedic chants, grand religious rituals, and devotional celebrations. This occasion became a golden chapter in the history of Shyam devotees in Kolkata. The enchanting idol of Baba Shyam installed in the sanctum appears so divine, compassionate, and lifelike that devotees feel their tiredness and suffering disappear simply through His darshan.

In addition to Khatu Shyam Baba, who is enshrined in the main sanctum, the temple also houses beautiful and joyful idols of Shri Radha-Krishna. The temple complex also has sacred shrines dedicated to Shri Hanuman Ji and the Shiv Parivar, providing devotees with the opportunity to experience the divine traditions of Sanatan Dharma at one sacred location. The magnificent temple complex on the first floor is not only significant from a religious perspective but also provides every visitor with a unique feeling of peace, spiritual fulfillment, and inner tranquility.

Daily Aarti and Darshan Timings

Thousands of devotees visit Alambazar Shyam Mandir every day for darshan. For the convenience of devotees and to ensure an orderly darshan experience, the temple management has established fixed timings for aarti and darshan. Five main aartis are performed regularly every day at the temple. Participating in these aartis is an extraordinary spiritual experience, as the grand aarti of Baba Shyam is performed amidst the sounds of conch shells, temple bells, and devotional drums.

The first aarti is Mangla Aarti, performed in the early morning to awaken Baba Shyam and mark the beginning of a new day. This is followed by Shringar Aarti, during which devotees receive the beautiful darshan of Baba Shyam in His magnificent divine adornment. Around noon, after offering bhog to Baba, Bhog Aarti is performed. In the evening, the grand Sandhya Aarti takes place, attracting the largest number of devotees. Finally, the day’s darshan concludes at night with Shayan Aarti, performed before Baba retires for the night. Devotees gather in large numbers during all five aartis to seek the blessings and divine grace of Baba Shyam.

In addition, Ekadashi, observed during both the Shukla Paksha and Krishna Paksha, holds special religious significance at the temple. Every Ekadashi, a grand and devotional Shyam Kirtan and Bhajan Sandhya is organized at the temple premises from 5:30 PM onwards. Renowned bhajan singers from different places perform melodious devotional songs, inspiring devotees to sing, dance, and immerse themselves in devotion. On Ekadashi, the temple becomes even more vibrant, and Baba Shyam is adorned with a special shringar featuring fresh flowers.

Temple Atmosphere, Bhandara and Social Service

Shree Shyam Mandir Alambazar is not limited to worship and religious activities. It is also a significant center of human service and selfless social welfare. The temple premises provide devotees with clean drinking water, comfortable seating arrangements, and well-organized queues for darshan. From the time of the COVID-19 pandemic to the present day, the temple has been providing meals twice a day to needy and underprivileged people. Meals are served to those in need at 12:00 noon and 7:00 PM every day.

This service continues with a spirit of selfless humanitarian service and compassion. Without discrimination based on caste, religion, or social status, everyone is served food with love and respect. The temple continues to actively participate in various social and charitable initiatives. Regular programs include:

Blood donation camps, Blanket distribution drives, Free health check-up camps, Assistance for economically disadvantaged people, Religious and cultural programs, Shrimad Bhagwat Katha, Janmashtami celebrations, Ekadashi celebrations

These grand cultural and religious programs continue to be organized throughout the year.

One of the temple’s most notable services can be witnessed during the sacred occasion of Durga Puja. During this period, when thousands of visitors come to Kolkata, the temple committee continuously provides clean drinking water and organizes a large Bhandara for devotees and visitors. The temple’s tradition of service and its growing reputation among devotees owe much to the invaluable contribution of the great social worker and devoted follower, Late Raja Agarwal Ji. He dedicated his life to the successful organization of religious programs and to strengthening faith among devotees.

On 31 December 2022, Baba Shyam called him to His divine feet. Although he is no longer physically present, the tradition of selfless service established by him continues at the temple today with the same dedication and devotion.
